Root Canal

A root canal can save your tooth

In our Macomb County, Michigan dental offices, we practice endodontics and provide root canals using modern rotary instruments and a warm gutta percha technique.

While many people cringe at the term “root canal,” this dental procedure is a very good thing – root canals are the way to save a tooth. The root canal is where the tissues and nerves of your tooth are housed. Should a tooth’s pulp become diseased or injured it will die, ultimately leading to infection. Endodontics is the necessary course of treatment.

The root canal procedure may take one to three visits to complete. The treatment involves going through the crown of the tooth to remove the diseased or dead pulp. The root canal is then cleaned and shaped so that it can be filled and sealed using the warm gutta percha technique. This prevents infection from setting in. We then place a porcelain crown over the remaining tooth to strengthen it.
